A while back I signed up for American Apparel's email list.
My hope was to get a coupon to buy some baby gowns.
(They are really soft.)
The coupon never came.
Instead, weekly hideousness appears in my inbox.

I survived the 80's.
I have no intentions of reliving those days.
Somewhere there are pictures of me in a neon,
off the shoulder oversized sweatshirt,
leggings, reeboks with the straps,
double neon socks and matching scrunchies.
(Yes, scrunchies plural.  Side ponytails
require more than one.)

Somewhere.  But not here.  No need to dig them out.
I don't want your eyes to bleed.

American Apparel does however.

I must be officially old.
And lame.
Because I don't get it.
Do they want to go out of business?
Is their marketing goal to make their  models look as ugly as possible?
Because it sure is working.
We work with pretty cool teenagers.
They only dress like this on our once a year 80's night.
They should change their website to don'tbuythis.com.
Imagine your man in this.
A father's day gift perhaps?

You know what, I am okay with being old and lame.
Because if this is what I should be wearing....
I'm good.

I can only say that I am awesome in a purely sarcastic way.
If I was serious that would be really annoying.

I am feeling the complete opposite of awesome.
After being extraordinarily productive for weeks upon weeks I have suddenly become quite the opposite.

I suppose the pace that I was working at,
well,
wasn't working.

My ankle is thrashed and my back is a disaster.
So I am laying around, covered in ice packs, sad that things aren't getting done.

It is pretty hard for me to do.

I wish I liked it.
But I also wish that the laundry and cleaning elves would visit.
I wouldn't mind ordering up some sewing elves too.

This is the fabric I ordered to make the girls Autumn dresses.  I planned to sew them when I was in the mountains, but one of the prints didn't come in time.  That is why I made the fun crates instead.  So glad that I did, but then as soon as I got home it turned into crazy boutique prep mode and then Kauai.  So as December draws near, I have resigned to the fact that the dresses have failed to make themselves.

This is the sweet pattern that I intended to try from The Handmade Dress.  Yesterday I stared at it for a good hour.  I could recite it to you I suppose, but that doesn't make the sewing machine go or the scissors cut.
So as I pack the fabric back up in the cupboard, I will always have next year.  Besides, three matching dresses are even cuter than two right?

In my boo hoo, poor me, sulkiness, I stared at the calendar and realized that the girls need (not need, that I want) Christmas pinnies.  Where else do I go to find them than my most favorite pinnie shop in the world?  Lassiegirl.  Love everything about her, the shop, the fabrics, her extraordinary kindness and the Jelly Bellies that come with every order.  If I don't make it to the sewing machine before December 25th rolls around I can at least make it to the mailbox.  Much easier!

Now while I am anti-awesome,  my parents are crazy-awesome!

Look at what is on its way to our house in the next week.

My dream bunk beds are ordered.  Although the logistics of moving the girls into the same bedroom is freaking me out, the fact that they will be sleeping on the best bunk beds ever is calming me a teeny bit.  (No, I haven't started on the quilts either.  Freaking out.)

So, if you can turn back time to September 1st and sew the Autumn dresses for me that would be amazing.

Or if you have any quilting, laundry or sewing elves, send them my way.

Or, if you know anyone who wants to add a room on to our house for free, so the girls don't have to share, that would be okay with me.

Seriously, if you have any good tips about transitioning kids into one room, that would be even better.

Dear Hershey,

What did I ever do to you?  Why must you treat me with such disrespect and hatred.  First you go and take away my most favorite candy in the world.  Without so much as a warning, leaving me with it's evil stepsister Good & Plenty.  (I would rather eat black widow spiders.)  I wrote you, I called you, I emailed you, I signed petitions.  After years of giving up all hope to see it again, even the chance stumbling upon an old, expired, dusty box in a super shady 7-11, you tease me with this neon box of the same name.  My heart nearly stopped when I walked down the wrong row and accidently spied the boxes today at the drugstore.  Could it be?  Do I really need new glasses that bad?  I think I know how to read... the box said Good & Fruity and the candies were the same shape, although that "natural" looking blue one is a bit questionable.  I was even sad that I can't send picture texts because I wanted to surprise my husband with the good news during his staff meeting.  I couldn't run fast enough to the check stand to buy my newfound dream come true.  I hid the treasure in my purse and waited until the girls were sleeping to enter candy paradise.  The anticipation, the glee, the joy, like a soap opera character raising from the dead, my beloved licorice and candy shell was back in my life.  Just when I most needed it.  But no, this story does not have a happy ending.  I am renaming your fraudulent candy this:
They are nothing more than super chemically altered Starburst Jelly beans.  Sour, acidic, pointless.  None of the previous magic, none of the flavor.  Goodbye licorice, goodbye shell.  Goodbye Good & Fruity forever.  I want my $1.29 back.  I want my old candy back.  Away with this sad, pathetic imitation.  Away with my dreams of being reunited with my youthful love.  I am going to a corner to wail and mourn.  How could you do this to me?  I was so faithful.  I never gave up faith that I would see it again.  Shame on you Hershey, shame on you.
On to brighter subjects... Do you feel let down like I do today?  Do you need a treat that won't take advantage of your devotion?  Do you love candy colors without the chemical aftertaste?  You need to take yourself over to Graham Cracker Crumbs.  Sweet Bethany is giving away all of this yummy (non fraudulent) ribbon to one of her readers.  Think of a fun ribbony craft and leave it in the comments section.  But watch out.  I will be fighting for it!  I need a treat that won't leave me devastated.

I think my girls call the owner of Whimsy Ranch behind my back and tell her what they want to wear.  I could literally buy one of everything in her shop and make my girl's frilly sparkle princess dreams come true!  How cute would this tutu have been at mini horse day.  Every time I have money in my Paypal account I am determined to spend it all here.  Today was the day... until I had to buy a lame hubcap for my van on Ebay.  It went "missing" (or I hit a curb and it fell off... hard to say) and it looks like I am driving around with a spare.  Hubcap or tutu?  Which sounds more fun?
