These feet, in their unmatching socks, covered not just 40 miles in June, but 47.93 miles.
I somehow did not quit.

Like a sweaty boss.

From a grand total of zero miles in May.

Did I love it? NO.
Did I hate it a little bit less each day?  A TEENY LITTLE BIT.

The main motivation?
Hello, what else is there? Food!!!

June was also the month of MyFitnessPal, which is so rad if you are someone who needs structure and accountability in the-stuffing-of-your-pie-hole-department.
If you don't move, and move a lot, for a lot of minutes and a lot of sweatyness, you are TOTALLY STARVING.

When I am starving, I am so, so, so, so, mean.
Meeting your calorie goal without some sort of daily cardio is dang near impossible.

To avoid the mean wife/ mom/ friend, I had to get my miles in.  When you get your miles in, you get to add calories.  When you add calories, you get TO EAT MORE FOOD.

My knees may hurt.  I may feel old and broken.  I'd rather be home in the air conditioning baking (and eating, obvs) cupcakes.

Instead I am going to keep moving.  Like it or not.

So here is to covering ground.  Here is to eating food.

Here is to 45 gross sweaty miles in July.

  1. Awesome! Ive been using fitness pal for quite a while. Love it. Did you know 1 hour of leisurely swimming burn around 800 calories? Just sayin!

    1. It was just walking, then walking with a little running, then more running, then my knee got all jacked up, back to just walking, now a little more running.
I don't think I'm made to ever be a runner. I want to be, but my knees disagree.

  3. Congrats! You are right myfitnesspal is NO fun without adding some calories for eating. : ) Speaking of eating, I made your salted caramel cupcakes for the 4th of July and got rave reviews from everyone except myfitnesspal,(obvs) because I ate 3!!! : ) But they were worth it!!!

  4. you're awesome. do mismatched socks make 40 million miles of walking more enjoyable...maybe that is my problem...socks. i walked 9 miles in june. i ate 2 cupcakes,1 s'more egg roll, 1 s'more french toast, 2 s'mores (s'more addict), 3 pieces of cake, and 2 homemade twix candy bars. hmmm...think i better run to the store for those mismatched socks pronto.

  5. Woo hoo! I've lost 18 lbs in 5 months using My Fitness Pal! I have to admit, my main motivation for working out is taking in extra calories too!

  6. I started using My Fitness Pal on June 23rd... I am sooo aware of what I am eating now and think twice before I do eat "junk food" because I don't want to waste calories... haha It's like a game that I must WIN... I am always under my calories for the day and if I exercise I am WAY under... These extra lbs better get the memo... I'm evicting them...

  11. Congrats Julie! I can no longer run because of 2 very bad knees but when I did, I had a kind of love/hate relationship with it. :D

  12. I knew you would get more than 40! That is so great. Did you ever listen to Today's Hits? What did you think?

I don't track my calories because I'm immature and don't want to know. I just try to move more than my naturally lazy inclinations would want.
