Because sometimes you need more than writing to tell a story.
(Read part one here.)

Now (a little too late...)  I learned that the Ultra Shea line is made for African American hair.
I'm not exactly their target market.

Somehow Clear failed to convey that in the packaging.  Or I'm just clueless.  Or both.

It might be a great product.  Just not great for me.
The biggest bummer is they never called me back, or gave me any good solutions via email.

Not cool Clear Scalp & Hair Therapy.  Not cool.

Thank you baby Jesus for Diet Pepsi.

  16. I am so sorry you had to endure this hair nightmare but your vlog made me chuckle and it is said that a merry heart does good like a medicine so all is not in vain. Plus you should send this to Pepsi. Plus I am surprised Clear did not respond to you. Oh and you should send this to Dawn too .Clearly there is some commercial benefit to be gained and oh by the way....your hair looks beautiful!!

  18. Who would have thought that Diet Pepsi would be the cure, good to know though. I also don't think that they are showing the right type of demographic on the commercials for that product seeing how the commercial I saw had a bunch of white women. I think it may have even been Heidi Klum.

    ReplyDelete
  19. The Diet Pepsi just had to overcome the popsicle recall hotline number. Seriously, this should be a commercial, like maybe for the Olympics. Your beautiful hair is back!!!

  42. 1. So fun to hear your California rad voice
    2. Following this saga has made me laugh/tear for you. Ugh, so frustrating!
    3. Have you heard from the "Clear" people???
    4. No, nothing in the marketing indicates it is for AA hair.
    5. So glad you found the solution!

We once stripped an old linoleum floor with Coke. The accidental Coke spill turned in to a miracle stripper!

  59. Hi there,
I'm new to your blog and I'm really enjoying it. I was just wondering if you knew that the Clear that you used is for African American hair? African American hair is coarser than Caucasian hair and doesn't have as much oil-in fact it needs to have oil put in it or it will dry out. On the side of the jar it says relaxed or natural hair. African Americans "perm" or relax their hair or do nothing (natural) At my Target the jar you bought is in the Black hair section and there is an advertisement with a black model by it.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I laughed out loud in Target today. Because there is a BIG display of Clear on an endcap. When I saw it, I just started giggling. And thought of you. Glad you have 'solved' your issue. :) Does make me wonder what all the Diet Coke that I drink is doing to my insides though.... :)

    ReplyDelete
  61. OH TO THA M G!! I WOULD DIE!! Especially since I cut 7" off my hair and it's above my shoulders....there would be no "Bun" for me if i did this.... wow.... you are waaaay more sane after all that than I would be! Note to self: Do not buy products without directions.... got that down :) wow... lol. I'm still LOL and horrified by this!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Diet Pepsi will never fail us.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I am laughing so much right now... loved the vlog, and can't believe it was diet pepsi that solved it.... so happy for you (even though i am a die hard coca cola girl).

  64. Love that your beloved Diet Poison saved your hair!
Raise a glass of DP and celebrate momma, you deserve it! :)
    Happy Day!

  65. I'm sorry but I am dyyyyyyying over here! Ohmygoodness ohmygoodness!!! Like I can't even imagine how desperate and how many (un)solutions one had to go through before you decide "diet pepsi? eh, why not?" I'm super ultra protective of my hair and I admit, clear seemed like it was a deep conditioner/hair mask thing. Good to know! And now I'm absolutely convinced we need to be friends. stat.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Hilarious that the products you tried to strip your hair of the Clear, actually provide great benefits to black women's hair. I.e. baking soda and vinegar (cleansers) and olive oil (moisturizer). I'm glad that you were able to get it out! I'm guessing the carbonation had something to do with lifting it from your hair.
