I spent a little time organizing my iTunes collection and one big thing stood out.
It is nearly void of girl singers...
Weird.
But then I thought about it, scrolled through it and realized one thing, I like bands.  Not singers.  I prefer music written and performed by the people in the band.
Most people that write music and play instruments are guys.
(Mind you if it is up to us, all of our girls will play some sort of instrument.  Because girls that play instruments are THE COOLEST GIRLS.)
Not to say that if I was a runner (hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha) that a Britney song or two wouldn't have a place on my workout playlist...
But for me if I am cooking, driving, sewing, or folding laundry, a band is always accompanying me.  With a dude singing.
That's me.
Want to mock me and my musical taste?
Or my dorky sense of humor?

Enjoy....

  3. I agree about guy bands vs. girl singers - but have to say that my favorite band has a girl singer! Over the Rhine is always on my playlist. :)

  12. If you're looking for some good girl singer-songwriter-instrument players, check out Ingrid Michaelson or Regina Spektor! Love them both.

  13. just 'cause of this post, i listened to my indigo girls pandora station all day to see if it would be any good. it was surprisingly great, actually. and not a boy in sight. had to 'thumbs down' some, but overall it was happy.

  15. That's so funny b/c I was just thinking the exact opposite about my itunes!! I'm filled with colbie calliot (or however you spell her funny name) and india arie and people like that.. I just love the scratchy girl voices, and I LOVE singing along while I pretend to be a runner... scaring all of the other runners who pretend they like to run. ;) I'm on the search for some good boy bands.. NKOTB doesn't count I bet.. lol

  16. that was the best video ever!

{in my bragging voice, like the bicycle guy from the video} you know one time i was at great america hanging out with my friend, kelli ramsay and her friend tony from the supertones who got us in to see the supertone concert. then we like totally went on the supertone bus and hung out. the other supertone's were like watching the 1990's sitcom "get a life." and that was cool.

{btw- this really happened. that is the story i use when i am trying to impress people... oh and another one about brian duncan which was only impressive in 1989}.

  17. I'm with you! I totally prefer guy singers over girls. And definitely agree with you about girls rocking instruments. I've played bass guitar for about 10 years. It's how I met my husband :)

But, i DID meet the boys from mumford & sons, and not to brag or anything ;), but i bowled with them after their st.louis show. It was tres exclusive. {giggle, giggle}. it was sick. apparently, they like old ladies.

    true story.

email me for deets if you desire {and i know you do}, then i can tell you why i haven't exploited it on the ol' blog.
