word to your mutha.

Back in ye olden days I was a sign maker.
But then summer came.
I do not prefer heat.
I heart air conditioning.
My sewing machine was in the cool house.
The saw was in the inferno backyard.
Honestly, I had no choice.
So I left the paint and sawdust for fabric and thread.
{But mostly for the air conditioning.  Or the pretty fabric.  Or both.}

Once in a while the saw calls to me.
I want to make a batch of signs for The Queen Bee Market, but I am stuck.
I need inspiration.
Words.
Colors.
Ideas.
What words would you hang in your homes?
What colors would you want them in?
I have a gorgeous pack of Amy Butler paper that is awaiting letters.
Go...
Fill my booth with wordy goodness.

  1. My favorite sign in my home is a grungy one from a farmer's market that says "The Gathering Room". It hangs above the french doors in our family room. I also love the "Always Kiss Me Goodnight" above our bed ;)

  2. Signs I have envisioned but refuse to learn how to make:

    welcome
no (I have a random hotel door hanger that says no in white letters on a red background- it hangs on the outside of the bathroom door...not that the kids read it and leave the shut door shut, but whatevs.)
    play
    read
    try
    work

    cook
my house was clean yesterday...sorry you missed it
    dream
    leave your shoes...bring your feet
    laughter is heard here

    I have a zillion more...

  5. ~ I have a little sign that is from Christmas that says "Love Came Down". I leave it up all year long because it's a lovely reminder.

  6. I heart my HOPE sign that I bought from you about a year ago. Some of my favorite words and phrases would be: ENJOY, DELIGHT, HOME, WELCOME, BE STILL, TRUST, BELIEVE

Words that inspire and remind me of TRUTH.

  13. i love your signs. not sure if you want to do just generic words (which are lovely)... but i'd love to be able to do a custom order for my child's name or our last name.

  20. You have already gotten some fab advice on words. The only one I would add is "kneel". It just popped in my head. I think it would be perfection for those of us that sometimes have trouble remembering to make that one on one time with Him a priority.

    cherish
    memories
    happiness

  22. I love signs too! The word that is always on my mind, and my walls is LOVELY because my favorite scripture is phil 4:8 Whatever things are lovely, think on these things. I'm constantly trying to focus on the lovely things instead of the laundry, the bills, etc... It's a way to remind me of what really matters!

  42. Do you read Lisa Leonard's blog? She talks about a word for the year. My word this year is "connect". I need to connect with people- not just through facebook or email or even by phone, but really connect with others. Ali Edwards has a great list on her blogsite for words, too.

  54. I love just initials. That way people could pick up a few to spell out or just initials for their kids or what not. You could do some fancy single letters with short chubby boards. I have one above each towel hook for my kids. I've always wanted a big W for my mantle. Maybe some black & whites with cute paper?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hmmm....

    I have a favorite saying...
"What would you attempt if you knew you could never fail?"

And I always like the signs that say
    Love

  78. I have a clock in my bathroom that says, "God's timing is always perfect." I LOVE THAT! I have looked EVERYWHERE for something, anything with that saying on it to give others as gifts. The other saying I love is written on a rug in my laundry room - "One load at a time."

    ReplyDelete
  79. My grandpa had a sign when I was little, "This too shall pass". I love that. It reminds me to live in the moment (if it's good :) ) and to know that something will be over soon (if it's bad). You have so many good ideas on here! I love them all. I agree with the bright colors too- aqua, love aqua.

  80. Faith and Family are my favs. I also like "Together is the best place to be."

    ReplyDelete
  81. I know you are probably only looking for one word signs, but I did see a sign the other day that said "Jesus knows me, this I love." It really made me stop in my tracks! Too bad their color choices were tragic or I would own it right now. Good luck!

  82. For the kitchen:
    EAT
    Cupcakes 10¢

    Bathroom:
    Relax

    Bedroom:
    Sweet Dreams
    Love Nest

Living / TV / Family / Great Room:
    Family
    Fun
    Together
    Enjoy

    Craft Room:
    Inspire
    Create
    Design

Also anything beach cottagey because that's my favorite style of decor - even tho' I live in Illinois. It's probably pretty popular where you are though! So -

    Beach
    Beach house
    Seashells
    Ocean
    Surf's Up
    Surfer Girl / Surfer Dude

Colors - well same ones you like basically! Turquoise/teal/aqua, bright greens, yellows, pinks, red, chocolate brown, grays, blues.

I personally dislike orange and purple but I'd include some of those. Purples are trendy now in home decor.
