I have made hundreds of these signs.  Every birthday, wedding, Etsy etc.  You would think that I would have made one for our family first.  Ten years.  Big deal.  Mark it forever with a sign.  Well, the signmaker's family has no sign.

To force myself to finally make one I am holding a little giveaway this week.  Tell me what you should do for yourself, but for no excusable reason,  just haven't.  I will make the winner their own custom sign at the same time I make mine.  The winner will be crowned on Saturday.  Hopefully this will get you thinking and get something done that you really should.

  1. Those signs are so cute! I have to say I'm really enjoying your blog.

I should really make myself some jewelry. I'm always making stuff for gifts, but never seem to the find the time to make stuff for myself!

  2. Love the sign!!!

  4. LOVE, LOVE that sign!!!!!!!

Ok...What should I do for me? I should get in my car and drive to beautiful places and take beautiful photos to decorate my home. I should take photos of things in life that make me SMILE...I should do this "just because..." I love photography but I don't get to do it enough. There's always something pulling me in another direction. Thanks for reminding me to do for me.

  5. I have been an embroiderer for 11 years and I have 3 boys. So they really don't like monogrammed things that much. Not so much into that cutesy monogrammed stuff, you know? So-do you think I have monogrammed towels. Not even the guest towels in the half bath right when you walk in the front door. Isn't that pitiful? I mean, how about a little self-promotion. Sigh. So I guess tath is waht I should do for myself. I love your blog, by the way. I had the same thing happen with one of my boys and a diaper in the crib. I can't remember which one. I've lost a lot of brain cells over 14 years of motherhood. Kim R. liontree@gvtc.com

  6. I really enjoy scrapbooking and taking pictures, but I have not done hand-made scrapbooks since my daughter's 1st b-day (she just turned 3). I love them and all the pretty paper, but it just sits there. on my craft table. sad. waiting to be cut and pasted.

  7. Your sign is adorable! I absolutely love it!

I always feel so selfish when I pray for myself. I pray for my husband, my family, my friends, even people I have never met and very rarely do I actually take the time to pray for myself, my well-being, and my peace of mind. Thank you for reminding me.

  8. time for myself? what does that mean?? ha! anyway, i wish i would make time for myself to read at night. life seems so crazy & when i finally do crawl into bed i feel like i'm asleep immediately. i keep getting books from the library but never make time to actually read them.
LOVE your signs. if i don't win this one, any idea when you'll be selling more on etsy? they are adorable!!

  9. I have probably made over 100 babie "night nights" (mini blankies) for showers, neices, nephews, friends. I have even sold some on ebay when times are tough. As I was going throug Izzy's boxes of baby clothes to get ready for my new baby I realized I have never made him one. He has an old pass me down but not one specially made for him by me. Maybe I'll make one for the little one but now can 4yr olds carry around little pieces of quilted minkie?

  10. I love this sign!!!!
I should take that trip with my mom and sister that I've been talking about for years. Ok, I can at least think about it.

  11. Love the sign. Can't wait to see yours!
My husband always tells me to do things for myself. Last year I lost over 30lbs and was in deperate need of clothes. But everytime I went shopping I came home with something for someone other than myself! I finally did find a few things....but now I don't have any fall/winter clothes. Should sew for myself or go clothes shopping!

  14. Adorable.

My daughter will be 5 months old tomorrow. I should make an effort to reconnect with my husband, whom I've been pushing away since she came along. Does that sound really sad and pathetic? It's not like I hate him or anything, I've just been so enthralled with this new bundle of joy that I've put his needs on the waaaay back burner. I think he deserves, no WE deserve, a few date nights out.

  15. You know what a fan I am of your signs! I need this one when Tim and I finally tie the knot this spring. Something I need to do - buy a sewing machine. I had one a long time ago and would love to re-learn how to sew.

  16. I need to take some time to sit. Just to sit and be still, relish in all of the blessings I have today, all of the trials I've overcome and just know think on how good God is.
Love your sign. Found your blog through Casey's.

  17. What a neat post Julie! I wish I didn't feel so guilty getting a babysitter once in a while. My hubby works very long hours and I always end up dragging the girls with me on errands, shopping trips, dr & hair appts, etc. Then I get frustrated, they get frustrated, we never get everything accomplished. I feel guilty paying for a sitter when I'm a SAHM. I should be able to do it all!!! lol! So, I guess what I need to do is invest in some alone time to get tasks accomplished more efficiently and take a breather. :)

  18. I need to read more books that I enjoy, not that are good for me. For every novel I have, there are 25 how-to books taking precedence.
How does that teach a love of reading to my kids? "Ugh, I have to go read now." great.

  20. My grandma gave me some really cool vintage fabric with dogs and flowers and stuff... super cute. Awhile ago, about two years in fact,I bought some updated fabric, (it wasn't cheap)to make a quilt. I really want to make it, but I haven't had enough time to sit and look at how I want it. So sadly it has been filed in the "projects to be finished" drawer. I really should make time for that, my grandma would love it!

  21. Hi Julie:
I stumbled upon your BLOG a few nights ago and have literally logged 8 - 10 hours of time looking through all of your old posts! You are amazing ... so creative, so crafty, so funny and so insightful! I love your style and all the things you make. All the while, I have laundry, bills, cleaning, tv shows awaiting! You are my new found hobby!

BTW, I love the invitations you did for the shower ... they were incredible! Sad to miss it!

I am not sure if you have anything in stock but I have a baby shower this weekend and would love to give my girlfriend a "handcrafted" Julie creation! I love all your work - especially the fabric applique onesies you make - ie guitar. So cute! If you have anything for a baby boy in stock I would love to purchase it! If not, no problem. I am chomping at the bit for your ETSY shop to reopen! I am hooked!

As for something I have been putting off for way too long.. the list is forever ... OH YEAH ... I haven't printed a picture since we got our digital camera three and a half years ago. Therefore, no pictures ... no photo albums ... no scrapebooks. Well that is a bit of a stretch seeing I do not have a scrapebook for any of my kids ... Like I said my list is very long!

OH and Julie ... Congrats on your new baby girl on the way! That is so awesome. Join the all girl club! All girls is such a blast! It has been way more of a blessing than I ever could have expected! I am thrilled for you and your family!

    Love the signs!

  23. oh, so many things. I love to organize, however my own closet that I don't even have to share with my husband is a mess! Also, I monogram pillows and have yet to monogram any for my bed!

  24. Love the sign... what creativity and talent! I was just talking to my hubby last night about how I wish I could really sew... I have a million cute little ideas up my sleeves, but not a real idea in the world how to do much beyond threading on a loose button! I really could go on and on with this one, but thought I'd start with a fresh example. :) Pop over to our blog, if you get the chance, for a little fall give-a-way! Blessings to you!

  25. Oh, I LOVE those signs! You definitely need one for yourself. :0)

I really should be organizing my office supplies and crafting supplies so that I can CRAFT MORE OFTEN! I crave crafting every single day, but my supplies are all stored together so I spend all of my time digging through them looking for what I need.

I also need to order prints of my last 200 or so photos, which is very unlike me. I normally print them right away. Having this done would make me very happy.

  26. I just love your blog, I have gotten some really neat ideas from you, thanks!

If I were to do something for me I would probably start reading the Twilight series.. I hear they are sooo good but I would never have the time to sit and read with my 5 kids!

  27. Every year around the holidays my family gets together and bakes. We bake soe of the best cookies and goodies and then we give them away to different families from our church. Of course some get eaten in the process of baking but I never make cookies like that for my family, throughout the year or at the holidays.

    I love your signs!

  28. While I would not call myself a scrapbooker, I would love to learn. My sweet husband gave me a gift certificate when my daughter was born and I took a class, but no scrapbook yet and she is almost 3. Now she has a little brother who has nothing written in his baby book and he is 9 months old! I would love to scrapbook and journal their lives. She says such funny things and I am forgetting them all.

  29. sweet sign---love it!

What i really should get done and be doing is visiting family that only live an hour away....it always gets put aside or put on the back burner until theres a "better time"....really there is no bad time to visit family and now I've just talked myself into going this weekend!

  30. I should give myself a photography class....I got an AWESOME camera from hubby for my b-day and I should treat myself to a class.

    love the sign....

  31. I love your signs...very neat.
The one thing I need to do for myself is just make that appt and get our family photo taken. I haven't had a professional family photo taken since my daughter was born (she is 6 now) and we just have random shots of us everywhere. I am proud of my family so I need to just hire someone and do it!

  34. So, I along with 30-some others are LOVING this sign missy!! But I have told you that before!

Anyway...things I should do for myself that I have been putting off?! The biggest is that I have GOT to get into a routine and start exercising. I am so out of shape and unhealthy it isn't even funny! I need to be healthier.

And then there is scrapbooking, reading the four novels in my nightstand...the list goes on!!

    Hope I win this one!!

  36. I am a photographer because when I was young, my family was so poor, we didn't have enough money for a camera. I have a special talent, so I use it to provide affordable photography to every type of family. I NEED to take more pictures of my own family. I should provide my service to my own family as well as others, right?!

  37. I totally LOVE this question... in fact I was thinking about it recently as I put the finishing touches on a crocheted blanket for my cousin's baby. When my first cousin got pregnant I got a little sad thinking about how there wasn't anyone left in our family that made handmade baby gifts. I had an aunt that had recently passed that painted amazing ceramics, a grandmother and aunt that were great at sewing and knitting, all of which had passed. So I decided I would pick up that role in our family. A little old lady I worked with offered to teach me how to crochet on our lunch breaks. So for months she showed me just how to make an adorable baby blanket... that was 6 years ago. Every close friend and family member since has had a blanket to take their little one's home with. Except me. My little one is now 2. I never made the time to make him a blanket despite my good intentions and the yarn in my closet. I'm totally feeling ready to find that bag and get after a blanket for him!
    Thanks for this challenge,
A blog friend from Kansas City,
    Kristin

  39. wow...i have quite a few but probably the most important would be to finish my almost 5 year old's First Year Scrapbook! I was so good for our 7 year old son's. I had it done by his first birthday. I've only gotten the first 3 months done of our younger son's.
I LOVE your signs! They are so FUN and creative!

  40. I LOVE the sign! and I love the title of your post because I can relate. I make handbags, but rarely make one just for myself. I usually take the "oops bags".

Hmm . . . what I should really do for myself? Probably take a little time just for me each day. Being a WAHM mom, it's a balancing act to give enough time to work & family each day. Sometimes I leave myself out of the mix. :-)

Thanks for an awesome giveaway! :-)

  42. That's easy, I need to spend some quality alone time with the Lord every day--no matter what. It would set the tone for the whole day and put me in the right frame of mind, but...other things always take precendence. Great giveaway! I'm praying I win, God willing! :)

  45. Oh what a cute sign! Would love to win one of those.

Lets see, I really want to sit down and make some scrapbook pages. I've bought some adorable papers and embellishments and put them in a container. And I have some really cute pictures of my grandbabies to put on those pages.
    Hopefully soon!

  47. In the cobbler's kids theme - I have made at least 50 cute bibs & burp cloths for every baby born around me. My little guy is 7mo. and using all of the cute pink & flowery dirty bibs & burp cloths from his big sister. I even have a pile of fabric ---What is my problem? Maybe it is the pace of 3kids under 4??? Maybe I should stay off the computer??? Anyway, the signs are great!

  50. I need to put some new portraits in my living room.
Being a children and family photographer I am doing it for others all the time. Thankfully I do take pictures of my family all the time... I just don't end up having them printed like I should. My goal in the next month is to have some of my favorite portraits printed and hung in my living room!
    Wish me luck. = )

  51. OH my! I'm sure it's too late to enter but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the sign! It is so unique!

I SHOULD do so many things. I have a sewing / embroidery machine that I use to enjoy... Lots of scrapping stuff that I use to enjoy... A huge bathtub that I use to enjoy! and then cam 4 children and my days are full before I can snap my fingers! I feel like I can barely drag myself to the bed at night right now! SOOOOOO today I think I'll take that first step and uncover the sewing machine and layout some scrapbook paper! Who knows what might happen next! Thanks for the inspiration!
